“BMX: Bicycle MotoCross, appeared in the US at the end of the 60’s, as Motocross was very popular but too expensive for many kids, they took some bikes and Motocross clothing to make races on small track they were used to build by themselves. But quickly the passion permit to the sport to develop a lot and arrived in Europe and other countries in the world by end of the 70’s, and in every countries federation appeared to organize competition. These competitions are done on a track around 400m, with bumps and berms, and are run by 8 racers, and the winner is of course the first to cross the finish line. Step by step the sport goes on to develop everywhere and big championship started with first World championship in 1982. But in the other side the sport started to divide in many other sort of riding with the apparition of “Freestyle” who include first ramps riding and flat riding, but now it’s a general term to include all other sort of BMX riding that are not Racing. From end of 90’s appeared Dirt riding ( 1 or more jumps where you have to make some tricks in the air) and Street riding (often on Skatepark where you have to make the best run in a limited time with jumps but many other technical tricks on ramps, walls,….), and now it’s totally dissociated between different disciplines. And the bigger part of riders are in these disciplines where peoples are very interested by the freedom spirit of the sport, that allow you to ride every time and every where you want with lone limits yourself, and the gravity.

Nevertheless in 2008 at Pekin Olympic games BMX Racing will be include, and It’s clearly a new step for BMX all over the world”
